The U.S. Department of Homeland Security said on May 22 that the Trump administration has suspended Harvard University's eligibility to recruit international students. In a letter to Harvard University, U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem said that Harvard University's Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) certification was revoked effective immediately.
The letter stated that the revocation of accreditation will prevent Harvard University from enrolling any foreign students with F or J non-immigrant status in the 2025-2026 academic year. In addition, current students with F or J non-immigrant status must transfer to other universities, otherwise they will not be able to maintain their non-immigrant status. The move means Harvard University will no longer be able to recruit international students, and existing foreign students must transfer or lose their legal status.
