LOS ANGELES — A public memorial for Lakers great Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna was held Monday at Staples Center, bringing celebrities, athletes and fans together to celebrate their lives nearly one month after they were killed along with seven others in a helicopter crash near Calabasas, Calif.

The two-hour memorial included performances from Beyoncé Knowles and Alicia Keys, and funny heartfelt moments from Michael Jordan and Shaquille O’Neal. Jordan delivered the one-liner of the day, saying: “I’m going to have to look at another crying meme.”

Bryant’s widow, Vanessa Bryant, spoke publicly for the first time since the crash, celebrating the quirks of her husband and daughter. “God knew they couldn’t be on this earth without each other,” she said.

Three of the biggest names in women’s basketball also spoke, a nod to Gianna’s involvement in the sport and Kobe’s support of her and the women’s game.
